German carmaker Volkswagen is all set to launch its new SUV, the Tiguan, in India on Wednesday, May 24. The full-size SUV will be Volkswagen's premium SUV offering in the country.
Some of the dealers have already opened the bookings for the new Tiguan SUV against a down-payment of Rs. 1 lakh. Volkswagen started the production of Tiguan at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra in March.
Volkswagen Tiguan is expected to be offered in two variants -- Comfortline and Highline. In terms of pricing, rumours suggest that the base variant of the Tiguan is likely to be pegged at Rs. 24 lakh while the top-of-the-line variant is expected to get a price tag of Rs. 30 lakh. The new Tiguan premium SUV will compete against the likes of Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, the new Isuzu MU-X and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq in India in its segment.
Under the hood, the new Tiguan is expected to pack 2.0L TDI engine mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The SUV is likely to generate 148bhp and 340Nm of torque and is expected to be offered in both 2-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
Based on the new MQB platform, the new Tiguan flaunts LED DRLs, new front grille, new front and rear bumpers and chrome toppings. While the Comfortline trim of the SUV will ride on the 17-inch alloy wheels, the high-end trim Highline will get 18-inch alloy wheels.
The cabin of the Tiguan is expected to get an all-black colour theme with piano black inserts on the dashboard and centre console. The SUV is expected to come loaded with features such as touchscreen infotainment system with MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto compatibility, panoramic sunroof, head-up display, faux leather upholstery and heated front seats. On the safety front, Volkswagen would offer airings, ABS with EBD, Hill Descent Control and Tyre Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS).
Volkswagen will pull the wraps off the new Tiguan later today. Stay tuned, we will bring you all the updates LIVE for the launch of the SUV.
