As German carmaker Volkswagen prepares to launch Tiguan in India, the latest reports suggest that the SUV will be offered in two variants in the country. Tiguan has already been listed on the India website of the company and also hit the assembly line at its Aurangabad facility in Maharashtra in March.
Tiguan is expected to be launched in the country in May. A report of AutocarIndia says that the upcoming SUV of Volkswagen will be available in Comfortline and Highline variants. Expected to be offered only in one engine, Tiguan will be pitted against Ford Endeavour, Toyota Fortuner, Chevrolet Trailblazer and the upcoming Skoda Kodiaq.
Reports are also doing the rounds that the bookings for Tiguan are open in the country and can be blocked for a down-payment of Rs 1 lakh.
Under the hood, Tiguan in India is expected to pack 2.0L TDI engine mated to a 7-speed DSG automatic gearbox. The SUV is likely to generate 148bhp and 340Nm of torque and is expected to be offered in both 2-wheel drive and all-wheel drive options.
Tiguan will be a premium model of Volkswagen India. It is expected to be priced in the range of Rs 25 to 30 lakh. The second generation of Tiguan is based on the MQB platform of the VW group as opposed to the first generation's PQ35 platform.
It is expected to pack features such as panoramic sunroof, head-up display, infotainment system and faux leather upholstery. The Highline trim of Tiguan is rumoured to come with 18-inch alloys, while Comfortline is likely to get 17-inch wheels.
