The made-in-India, made-for-India compact sedan Ameo from the house of German car-maker Volkswagen has clocked sales of 2,200 units in July. The compact sedan has contributed to 51 percent sales of the company last month.
The Ameo was launched in the country in June. The compact sedan, which competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent is currently available only with petrol engine option. The company is expected to roll out the diesel version of the Ameo in India soon to boost the sales.
Volkswagen reported a 6.75 percent increase in sales in India at 4,301 units in July. The Company had sold 4,029 units in the same month last year
Volkswagen began the deliveries of Ameo in July. Offered in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variants, the Ameo is powered by a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine that develops 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual gear box. The compact sedan hosts a string of best in-class features, such as cruise control, infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth connectivity, reverse-parking camera, reverse-parking sensors and touchscreen MirrorLink system. Volkswagen Ameo is priced at Rs. 5.24 lakh, (ex-showroom Delhi).
The diesel-powered model of the compact sedan will get upgraded 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine, which is expected to be re-tuned to churn out 108bhp of power. The Ameo offers safety features such as dual front airbags and ABS as standard.
