Volkswagen Polo GTI teased ahead of November launch in India; all we know so far

Confirming the arrival of the much-awaited powerful hatchback, the Polo GTI, in India, German carmaker Volkswagen has kicked off a teaser campaign on the social media platforms.

The company released the first teaser image with a caption that read, "Imagine raw, untethered power. Now imagine wielding that power. Soon, you won't have to imagine anymore." Volkswagen is expected to announce the launch of the performance hatchback in India by mid-November. We had reported earlier that a couple of units of the Polo GTI have already reached Indian shores from Spain. Volkswagen will bring the power hatch to India as Completely Built Unit (CBU).

The GTI is open for bookings for select customers in India and the company has already received bookings for over 100 units, ZeeNews reported. The hot hatch of Volkswagen is expected to get a price tag of over Rs 25 lakh in India. The company is expected to launch the three-door version of the Polo GTI in India first, followed by the five-door version.

In India, the Polo GTI will square off against Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and the new Mini Cooper S. First showcased in India at the Auto Expo 2016, the Polo GTI is expected to come with features like new front and rear bumpers with a GTI badge and LED DRLs, honeycomb-styled radiator grille rear-spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, a black grained diffuser and chrome dual exhaust tailpipes. It will feature 17-inch alloy wheels.

Under the hood, the Polo GTI will get a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 192bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. The engine can propel the powerful hatchback to reach 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 236 kmph.
