It looks like the German car-maker Volkswagen will soon bring its much-awaited powerful hatch, the Polo GTI to India. In what seems to be good news about the launch of the hot hatch in the sub-continent market, Michael Mayer, Director, Volkswagen Passenger Cars India said that the GTI is already en-route to India from the company's plant in Spain.
Volkswagen Polo GTI was showcased at the Auto Expo 2016 and the market entry of the car has been awaited since then. Although the showcased was a three-door version of the Polo GTI at the auto show earlier this year, rumours are rife that the company is planning to bring both five-door and three-door versions of the car to India. Volkswagen Polo GTI was also spied quite a few times on the Indian roads while it was undergoing testing.
A report of the Hindu says that the Polo GTI will be launched only in limited numbers in the country and is expected to be priced over Rs 25 lakh. The powerful hatchback will come as completely Built Unit (CBU).
Powering the GTI is a 1.8-litre four-cylinder TSI petrol mill that can churn out 192bhp of power with seven-speed DSG gearbox. It can attain 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds before hitting a top speed of 236 kmph.
The Polo GTI is expected to come with features like new front and rear bumpers with a GTI badge and LED DRLs, honeycomb-styled radiator grille rear-spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, a black grained diffuser and chrome dual exhaust tailpipes. In India, the Polo GTI will take on the likes of Fiat Abarth 595 Competizione and the new Mini Cooper S.
