Volkswagen is all set to launch its India-spec compact sedan, Ameo, at the Auto Expo 2016 (starting 3 February). Along with the Ameo, Volkswagen may unveil the most powerful version of the Polo hatchback, the GTI, at the show.
A report in Cardekho says there is a high possibility of Volkswagen bringing Polo GTI to the show. Rumour has it that the hot hatch will be launched around March 2016. Polo GTI comes with sportier bumpers, honey-comb styled radiator grille with classic red GTI strip, unique side sill, rear spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes. The car runs on 17-inch alloy wheels through which red brake callipers are visible. The LED headlights will be optional while sports steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats will add sportiness inside the cabin.
The real change over the regular Polo models is under the hood. The GTI is powered by a 1.8-litre, four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine producing maximum power output of 189bhp and maximum torque of 320Nm, mated to a seven-speed DSG transmission. The GTI will run from 0-100 kmph in 6.7 seconds before reaching the top speed of 236kmph.
This number makes GTI the most powerful hatchback to be sold in the country. The next best rival is Fiat Abarth Punto that develops 145bhp from a 1.4-litre T-Jet engine. The hot hatch is expected with a price tag of over Rs 10 lakh.
