German auto maker Volkswagen is gearing up to launch the three-door Polo GTI in India around September this year, suggest the emerging reports.
A report of Auto Car India reveals that Volkswagen Polo GTI will be launched in India this year after its premier at the 13th edition of Auto expo 2016 in Greater Noida. With the launch, Volkswagen -- which is targeting the uncharted territory of three-door hatchback -- will also consider 5-door version for the Indian market after gauging the response from the customers.
"We want to keep it very pure; a hot hatch that offers performance, technology and comfort. I know that there is a compromise here, but people who buy this car, which is a fairly costly car, will have other cars in their garage to load five people on a regular basis," Michael Mayer, Director, VW Passenger Cars India told the publication.
The 3-door Polo GTI, which would be brought to India as CBU (completely built units), is expected to be priced over Rs 20 lakh. At the heart, Polo GTI, the powerful performance hatchback, is expected to get 1.8-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine that can churn out 189bhop of power and 320Nm of peak torque. The transmission in the hatchback will be taken care of by seven-speed DSG transmission.
As for the styling, the Polo GTI flaunts new front and rear bumpers with GTI badge and LED DRLs. There is also a honeycomb-styled radiator grille rear spoiler, tail light clusters in dark red, black grained diffuser and the chrome dual exhaust tailpipes. It runs on 17-inch alloy wheels and inside the cabin, the hot hatch gets new steering wheel, instrument cluster and sports seats.
