Reiterating the commitment to produce in India, Volkswagen showcased its Ameo at the ''Make in India'' event in Mumbai. Volkswagen's Ameo compact sedan created quite a buzz in India when it made its first appearance at the Auto Expo 2016 in Delhi in earlier in February.
The Ameo is the company's first designed-for and made-in-India compact sedan, inspired by the Vento and the Jetta. The company is expected to launch the new compact sedan in India in the second quarter of 2016.
Volkswagen Ameo will be available with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine or a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine. The diesel engine is available with five-speed manual and seven-speed DSG transmission, while the petrol engine will be available with only five-speed manual transmission. Rumours doing the rounds on the Internet indicate the production version of the Ameo will include changes in the front fascia.
As for features, the Ameo will include cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, static cornering lights, touchscreen multimedia music system with Mirror link, iPod connectivity, and phonebook and SMS-viewer.
