Volkswagen is all set to pull the wraps off its new compact sedan Ameo in India by mid-June and the company has aggressive plans to promote its new offering in the market. Volkswagen has kick-started a multi-city road show that will run through different cities to promote the Ameo and the new compact sedan is also available for bookings from May 12 for a down payment of Rs. 10,000.
Volkswagen Ameo was unveiled in India a day before the Auto expo 2016 in February. The car, which has been specifically designed for the Indian market is expected to start the delivery of the Ameo in India from July. The Ameo will rival segment leaders like Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent. Volkswagen is expected to price the new compact sedan, a made-in-India and made-for-India car, in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh.
To be manufactured at the company's Chakan, Pune facility, under the hood, the Ameo will come with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine, which can churn out 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that can develop 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. While the diesel engine will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG transmissions, the petrol engine will come teamed with only five-speed manual transmission.
The Ameo will come in exterior colours of Blue Silk, Reflex Silver, Toffee Brown, Candy White and Carbon Steel and will be available in three trims —Trendline, Comfortline and Highline. While the base variant comes with features like body-coloured bumpers, wing mirrors and door handles, door mirrors with turn indicators, heat-insulating glass, flat-bottomed steering wheel, sunglass-holder inside glove box ,folding rear-seat backrest, front power windows, central locking, tilt-and telescopic steering, the comfortline comes packed with dual-tone interior, cruise control, height-adjustable driver's seat, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, front and rear power windows, infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity.
The Ameo Highline gets leather-wrapped steering wheel and gear knob, steering mounted controls automatic wipers, reverse parking camera, reverse parking sensors, front armrest with rear AC vent, electrically-foldable ORVMs, rear defogger and touchscreen MirrorLink system.
On the safety front, the Ameo comes equipped with ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), Dual-front airbags, driver and passenger side, Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold control.
