German carmaker Volkswagen is expected to bring the diesel-powered model of its compact sedan the Ameo to India this festive season. The Ameo diesel has been going through tests on the Indian roads for quite some time now and the auto lovers have seen it through numerous spy shots.
The Ameo diesel has been spied testing once again, this time when the compact sedan was cruising at night. The latest set of spy shots of the Ameo diesel comes from ThrustZone. According to the original publisher of the photograph, the diesel-powered Ameo was being driven at a high speed and the prototype of the model was seen without any hint of camouflage, thus revealing the diesel badging at the rear.
Volkswagen launched the Ameo, a made-in-India, made-for-India compact sedan in June this year. Currently, the Ameo is sold with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine that develops 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque. The engine comes mated to 5-speed manual gear box. In the diesel-powered version, the Ameo is expected to get an upgraded 1.5-litre TDI diesel engine, which is expected to be re-tuned to churn out 108bhp of power.
In the diesel version, the Ameo will remain the same in terms of style and design. Offered in Trendline, Comfortline and Highline variants, the Ameo offers safety features such as dual front airbags and ABS as standard. The Ameo competes with the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent in the country.
