Breaking the recent lull in the information update about the upcoming Volkswagen Ameo comes the news that the company is looking at a June launch for the new Ameo in India, with deliveries to commence soon after.
The delivery of the compact sedan, which made its debut in India before the Auto Expo 2016 in February, would begin by July, according to CarDekho. The Ameo, a made-in-India and made-for-India car, will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent.
To be manufactured at the company's Chakan plant in India, the Ameo has been designed for the Indian market and will be offered in both petrol and diesel engine options. It was reported earlier that the company is ramping up the production at the Chakan facility to accommodate the Ameo.
Under the hood, the Ameo will come with a 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol engine, which can churn out 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque and a 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engine that can develop 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. While the diesel engine will come mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG transmissions, the petrol engine will come teamed with only five-speed manual transmission.
Expected to be offered in the range of Rs. 5 lakh to Rs. 8 lakh, the Ameo — the first offering from Volkswagen in the compact sedan segment in India — will house features like cruise control, rain-sensing wipers, static cornering lights, touchscreen multimedia music system with Mirror link, iPod connectivity, and phonebook and SMS viewer.
On the safety front, the Ameo is expected to offer dual front airbags and ABS as standard, even in the base variants.
