German auto maker Volkswagen is all set to pull the cover off its new India-specific compact sedan Ameo in the country on 2 February, a day before the biggest auto carnival -- Auto Expo -- kickstarts in Greater Noida. The compact sedan will also make its appearance at the Auto Expo 2016.
Now, ahead of its launch in the country, Volkswagen has teased an image of its new Ameo being rolled out from the Chakan, Pune facility, showing that the car is all set to make its way to this year's Auto Expo. In the image, the new Ameo is seen fully clad in a blue-cloth, not giving away any key detail of the model.
Volkswagen Ameo, a made-in-India compact sedan, which would be positioned between the Polo hatchback and Vento sedan, will take on the likes of Maruti Suzuki Swift, Tata Zest, Ford Figo Aspire and Honda Amaze.
Under the hood, Ameo is expected to get current Polo engines, which include the 1.2-litre MPI and TSI petrol engines and the 1.5-diesel unit. While the petrol 1.2-litre MPI engine that can churn out a power of 74bhp@ 5,400 rpm and a torque of 110 Nm @ 3,750 rpm, the diesel 1.5-litre can generate 88.7bhp @ 4,200 rpm and 230 Nm of torque at 1,500-2,500 rpm.
Expected to be priced in the range of Rs 5-8 lakh, Ameo will be based on the PQ24 platform of Vento and will feature rear AC vents, front centre armrest, touchscreen audio system, auto-dimming IRVM, turn indicators on ORVMs and antenna on the roof.
