Original Story
German luxury car-maker Volkswagen has confirmed that the company will launch the new compact sedan, Ameo, in India on Sunday, June 5. The company, which had announced a contest on social media for guessing the price of the Ameo, is also expected to reveal the winners on Sunday.
The Ameo, a made-in-India, made-for-India compact sedan was unveiled in February in the country. The bookings for Volkswagen's first compact sedan are already open and the new offering of Volkswagen is expected to be priced in the range of Rs. 5.30 to Rs. 8 lakh (ex-showroom).
The Ameo will be powered by 1.2-litre three-cylinder MPI petrol and 1.5-litre four-cylinder TDI diesel engines. While the petrol mill can churn out 74bhp of power and 110Nm of peak torque, the diesel units can develop 89bhp of power and 230Nm of torque. The diesel engine comes mated to a five-speed manual gearbox and seven-speed DSG transmission, while the petrol engine gets only five-speed manual transmission.
To be offered in three trims — Trendline, Comfortline and Highline, the Ameo will come equipped with features like a height-adjustable driver's seat, electrically-adjustable ORVMs, an infotainment system with CD/MP3/USB/AUX-in/SD card and Bluetooth and iPod connectivity, steering-mounted controls, automatic wipers and a reverse-parking camera.
The safety in the new Ameo will be taken care of by features such as ABS (Anti-lock Braking System), dual-front airbags on the driver and passenger side, an Electronic Stabilisation Programme (ESP) and Hill Hold control.
The Ameo will be pitted against Maruti Suzuki Swift DZire, Honda Amaze, Ford Figo Aspire, Tata Zest and Hyundai Xcent in India. The compact sedan is expected to be at the dealerships of the company for purchase soon after the launch.
