Reformed gangster Muthappa Rai launched the first look teaser of Vivek Oberoi's "Rai," which happens to be his biopic. The film is written and directed by maverick filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma (RGV).
Ram Gopal Varma tweeted on April 30 that the teaser of "Rai" would be released at a grand event held in Bangalore on Sunday. He tweeted, "#RaiMegaLaunch at 6 pm today will be biggest and costliest launch ever of film's1st look in front of 50,000ppl with fireworks and laser shows. #RaiMegaLaunch First look is of the film I am making based on the life of Underworld Don Muththappa Rai..The Greatest Gangster Ever."
"Rai" has been made in four languages -- Kannada, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu. It will be one of the costliest Indian movies. Ram Gopal Varma wrote, #RaiMegaLaunch "Rai" film is going to costing more than 55 crores which will be my most expensive film ever by leaps and bounds. #RaiMegaLaunch "Rai" film is going to be shot in Manglore,Banglore,Mumbai,Dubai,London and Kazhakastan (sic)."
Soon after its launch, Ram Gopal Varma released the teaser of "Rai" on his official YouTube channel on May 1. Besides posting the YouTube link, he tweeted, "#RaiMegaLaunch Only gangster in world including Dcompany n American Mafia who proved crime actually pays. #RaiMegaLaunch It takes 20 yrs for a simple murder trial in india..Rai was acquitted in 20 murders in 21 months."
Ram Gopal Varma â€added, "#RaiMegaLaunch He started with Rs 30 in his pocket and after a 30 year criminal career is today worth 30,000 crores. #RaiMegaLaunch He started as a small time clerk in a bank and is now himself a bank. The teaser of "Rai" has received good response from the audience. The 1.01-minute-long video has been viewed 29,701 times on the official YouTube channel of Ram Gopal Varma in 24 hours. The first look has got 370 thumbs up, 48 thumbs down and 16 comments.
