Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza, is getting phenomenal response with bookings over 75,000 within just two months of its launch. Riding on the new compact SUV, India's largest car maker also posted significant jump in utility vehicle sales in May.
Maruti Suzuki has sold 13,596 units of its UVs that include Vitara Brezza, S-Cross, Ertiga and Gypsy in May. The range without the first two vehicles found only 5,567 takers in May 2015. The company has registered 144.2 percent jump in sales month-on-month. The S-Cross is not a large volume fetcher for Maruti Suzuki and hence it is clear that the Vitara Brezza is the key product behind this huge jump.
The Maruti Suzuki compact SUV made headlines in its launch month of March by reaching the Numero Uno position in the segment beating Ford EcoSport. The Vitara Brezza found 5,563 takers in March, and Ford India sold 4,456 units of EcoSport. The Vitara Brezza's sales rose to 7,832 units last month and the vehicle is the second bestselling UV in the country behind Hyundai Creta.
The SUV currently has a waiting period in the range of seven months to nine months. The two-day production halt at the Maruti Suzuki plants over Subros plant fire might have affected Vitara Brezza's prediction, leading to an extended waiting period. However, nothing has been confirmed yet.
Available only with diesel engine, the compact SUV is powered by a 200 DDis 1248cc diesel engine that develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. The compact SUV also boasts of a best-in-class fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl. The Vitara Brezza has been priced starting at Rs. 6.99 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi).
