Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki's first compact SUV, continued to contribute to the utility vehicle sales of the company in November. The Indo-Japanese brand sold 17,215 units of its UVs, registering a 98.1 percent increase over 8,688 units sold in November 2015.
Maruti Suzuki's UV portfolio includes Gypsy, S-Cross, Vitara Brezza, and Ertiga MPV. Though the variant-wise sales report is not out yet, it is evident that Vitara Brezza is the key product behind the spike in sales. Vitara Brezza has been finding an average of over 9,000 takers every month and is the best selling SUV in India at present.
Riding on the Vitara Brezza, Maruti Suzuki sold 1,27,182 units of its UVs in the nine months of this financial year registering 132.3 percent growth. The company sold only 54,756 UVs during April-November FY 2015-16. Maruti Suzuki's compact SUV found 10,051 takers in October and 9,375 units in September 2016. The sales figures for August, July and June are 9,554, 10,232 and 6,673, respectively.
Vitara Brezza has racked up over 1.72 lakh bookings so far in less than eight months of launch and the company managed to deliver over 65,000 units. Despite an increase in the production of the compact SUV to 10,000 units from July, Maruti Suzuki is still struggling to meet the demand. The current waiting period of Vitara Brezza stands at seven months, depending on the variant. Maruti Suzuki has also been forced to delay the launch of Vitara Brezza's petrol version as the company is not able to clear existing bookings.
Priced in the range of Rs 7.19 lakh to Rs 9.88 lakh (ex-showroom Delhi), Vitara Brezza is powered by a 200 DDis 1248cc diesel engine that develops 88.5bhp at 4,000rpm and 200Nm of torque at 1,750rpm mated to a five-speed manual gearbox. It boasts of best-in-class fuel efficiency of 24.3 kmpl.
