After getting a solid opening, Viswasam has managed to retain its 70 percent of its occupancy on its second day at the Tamil Nadu box office. The Ajith Kumar-starrer has emerged clear winner at the collection centres in the state in the first two days as the movie has been overwhelmingly received by the Tamil cine-goers.
On the opening day, Viswasam had earned over Rs 15+ crore in Tamil Nadu, which was higher than Rajinikanth's Petta that earned about Rs 13 crore on the first day. A rough estimation coming from the trade indicates the Ajith-starrer has added over Rs 10 crore on its second day to take its two-day total in the state to Rs 25+ crore in the state. Report on the second day business of Petta.
"#Viswasam holding very well across TN on day 2 and is turning out to be a big winner. #ThalaAjith, #Nayanthara, @directorsiva @SathyaJyothi_ @kjr_studios . [sic]" leading trade tracker Sreedhar Pillai had tweeted about its collection. The movie was expected to fare well if Petta had not released on the same day and the Ajith-starrer had got required number of screens for its release.
While Petta has ruled the Chennai and Chengalpet regions, Viswasam has outperformed the Rajinikanth-starrer in majority of the centres in the state that include Madurai. In the terms of local trader trackers, the strong forte of the Ajith's film is B and C centres.
In Chennai, the movie had over 300 shows on its second day and the two-day gross is estimated to be over Rs 1.5 crore.
According to trade analysts, Viswasam has lived up to the expectations considering the flick was a non-holiday release. The Tamil flick could have added at least Rs 5-8+ crore to its overall tally if it was released on a festival and had a solo release, say trade industry insiders. However, with the state having a six-day Pongal holiday, the future of the Ajith-starrer is expected to be bright.
So, the makers are not expecting the collection of Viswasam to witness a major drop for the next five days. "With positive reviews and the family-oriented content, this film will keep the cash registering ringing for the next few days," says a trade tracker.
It is interesting to note that Petta has an edge over Viswasam outside Tamil Nadu.
