Ajith Kumar's Pongal release Viswasam has got a fantastic opening at the Tamil Nadu box office. Despite facing stiff competition from Rajinikanth's Petta, the Siruthai Siva-directorial has registered an impressive occupancy in theatres across the state on its first day, January 10.
Released in over 525 screens, Viswasam had piqued a lot of interest among the Tamil cine-goers. After almost a gap of 17 months, a movie of Ajith is seeing the light of the day and people have been keenly awaiting its release.
Armed with positive vibes, the advance booking of tickets for the Tamil flick met with a fantastic response. As a result, the Siruthai Siva's creation has got an impressive opening.
However, Viswasam had its own issues as it had a tough time in getting the required number of screens for its release due to the simultaneous release of another biggie, Petta. Also, the state government refused to give permission to the special early morning shows like previous years.
With two movies hitting the screens on the same day, the Ajith-starrer got lesser number of shows compared to his previous film Vivegam.
While Vivegam had 260+ shows on the first day, Viswasam is having 170+ shows in Chennai. In Tamil Nadu's leading multiplex chain, Mayajaal, the film had over 30 shows on the first day.
Taking the pre-sales of tickets into consideration, it is safe to say that Viswasam has got a flying start at the Tamil Nadu box office.
In Kerala, Viswasam is released in over 200 screens and has got a decent start at the box office. The collection is expected to improve in the days to come. On the other hand, it has got a good opening in Karnataka where it has opened in over 100+ screens.
Viswasam
Viswasam has been released in the US and a few foreign countries. The collection is not up to the mark here as the movie has seen the light of the day in one language (Tamil) and too much of competition from the films like Petta and Telugu films like Kathanayakudu.
