Kamal Haasan's much-awaited Vishwaroopam 2 is releasing in over 2000 screens worldwide on Friday, August 10. The multilingual movie is expected to get a flying start at the box office across the globe and the industry is now curiously looking forward to see whether it sets new bench marks at the collection centres.
Vishwaroopam 2 has generated a lot of buzz, which is expected to translate into collections at the box office. However, a section of trade trackers are not sure how the people would respond to the film considering that Tamil Nadu has not recovered from the death of its beloved political leader M Karunanidhi.
Usually, the advance booking for tickets of an A-list actor begins a week before its release, but in case of Vishwaroopam 2, it commenced only last evening as the exhibitors were doubtful about the release. Still many theatres are yet to start the advance booking.
Nonetheless, the fans are game for the release and some single screens, like usual, will have early morning shows.
The first part of the movie was not released in Tamil Nadu after the then J Jayalalithaa government had banned the movie for two years. This had taken a toll on the collections of the film. Taking this into account, it is safe to say that Vishwaroopam 2 would do far better than its predecessor.
The industry is eagerly waiting to see whether Vishwaroopam 2 shatters the opening day record of Rajinikanth's recent movie Kaala, which had minted Rs 40.07 crore on the first day. The movie did below-par business mainly because it could not see the light of the day in most of the centres in Karnataka after fringe groups stalled the release over the superstar's pro-Tamil Nadu comment on the Cauvery issue.
