Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 has got a good start at the Chennai box office sans morning shows and registering below-par response for advance bookings. The multilingual movie has managed to beat the opening day record of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2.
On the first day, Vishwaroopam 2 earned close to Rs 93 lakh at the Chennai box office. This is considered to be a good number for a non-holiday release. Kamal Haasan's movie also did not have advance booking for tickets due to various issues and uncertainity over release till the last minute impacted the film's business.
Yet Vishwaroopam 2 has beaten the record of SS Rajamouli's Baahubali 2, which had minted around Rs 92 lakh from two languages (Tamil+Telugu).
Vishwaroopam 2 is now in the sixth position at the Chennai box office in the list of biggest openers in the capital city of Tamil Nadu after Rajinikanth's Kaala (Rs 1.75 crore), Vijay's Mersal (Rs 1.52 crore), Ajith's Vivegam (Rs 1.21 crore), Rajinikanth's Kabali (Rs 1.12 crore) and Vijay's Theri (Rs 1.05 crore).
Kamal Haasan's latest movie has opened to fairly positive reviews from critics and audience. The high-octane action sequences, visuals and Kamal's performance have been praised, but the movie fails to hold the viewers' attention at parts.
The trade trackers are expecting the movie to see a boost in its collection in the days to come, especially on Saturday and Sunday. With the Independence Day (August 15) holiday around the corner, the movie is expected to be a profitable venture with ease in Chennai.
The movie, which has Andrea Jeremiah and Pooja Kumar in the leads, is a circumquel to Kamal Haasan's 2013 Vishwaroopam.
