Kamal Haasan's Vishwaroopam 2 has received a decent opening despite getting mixed reviews from the critics across the nation. As there was a delay in the commencement of advance bookings, the multilingual film only managed to get an average opening.
Meanwhile, the movie was expected to get a flying start at the box office, at least in the South Indian states. Vishwaroopam 2 has been released in over 500 screens in Tamil Nadu. Usually, the advance booking for an A-list actor begins a week before the film's release, but only a handful of centres had the advance booking options.
The movie was facing multiple issues in Tamil Nadu. Firstly, Pyramid Saimira had approached the Madras High Court seeking a stay on the release until Kamal Haasan clears the amount that he had taken to revive long-pending project Marma Yogi. The court gave its verdict on Thursday only after which the exhibitors decided to commence the pre-booking.
The entire issue was sorted at the last minute and it did not allow exhibitors to add special shows on the release day. In many rural areas, there was no clarity on its release even as Vishwaroopam 2 saw the light of the day in Chennai and Chengalpet.
Among South Indian states, Vishwaroopam 2 registered a better opening in Karnataka than Andhra Pradesh. Box office collections at Kerala were also affected owing to the heavy rains. In North India, the film is expected to do about Rs 2 to Rs 2.5 crore on the first day.
In the overseas centres, Vishwaroopam 2 has made a decent collection in the US from its premieres. The final report is yet to be revealed, but the early trends had shown that the Kamal Haasan's film managed to collect $38,604 from 97 locations.
