Keralites all over the world are celebrating Malayalam New year Vishu, which falls on the Medam month of the Malayalam calender every year. This year, the festival is observed Thursday, April 14.
The day began with the traditional New Year sighting, known as Vishukkani. Elders of the family arrange holy texts, coins, rice, fruits, vegetables, metal mirror, betel leaves, arecanut, kanikkonna flowers (Cassia fistula) and lighted brass lamps near Lord Krishna's decorated statue to be viewed soon after waking up from sleep in the morning.

Celebrities, including Mohanlal, Mammootty, Prithviraj Sukumaran, Dulquer Salmaan, Nivin Pauly, Aju Varghese, Vineeth Sreenivasan, Sunny Wayn, Tovino Thomas, Kavya Madhavan, Rima Kallingal, Mrudula Murali, Pearle Maaney, Reba Monica John and many others have wished their fans on Vishu.
While Prithviraj has released the official trailer of "James and Alice" as a Vishu gift to his fans, Mohanlal, Mammootty and Dulquer have shared the new posters of their upcoming movies "Pulimurugan," "White" and "Kammattipaadam," respectively along with the greetings of the new year.
