Travis Fimmel could probably end his journey with team "Vikings" as King Ragnar Lothbrok towards the end of season 4. But the character may fulfil his long time wish before saying goodbye to family and friends.

Fans of the popular history drama series received lot of scoops about the upcoming sequel during San Diego Comic-Con 2015.

Creator Michael Hirst revealed that the series will return with a time jump and hinted the death of Fimmel's character as he revealed that it is not a show about the leader but about "Vikings", according to Christian Today.

In a similar vein, Fimmel said: "He's got very close to death. A lot of this year is his fascination with death. Like Odin, who hung himself to feel how it felt to be dead."

So, speculations suggest that Bjorn Ironside (Alexander Ludwig) could be the next leader. Even the actor teased that followers of the show will see his character's gradual transition to a leader.

"This is the season where he's finally come into his own and now it's about Bjorn and learning from his father, but now there's this camaraderie between the two. You really start to see him step up and start running things when his father initially can't. It's a really exciting time for him and also very nerve-racking," Ludwig told IGN.

However, fans of Lothbrok need not lose hopes as Fimmel teased a new love interest for his character. "A very talented actress. We've been working a lot lately. I think it's going to be a unique relationship," said the celeb.

Meanwhile, Hirst hinted on a new alliance between the Viking leader and King Ecbert of Wessex (Linus Roache). "[King Ecbert] is a fascinating character. A good foil for Ragnar. There are many things they have in common, which they recognise. They may well, ultimately, get the chance to talk about some of the things they have in common," Entertainment Weekly quoted him as saying.
