Kollywood audience had recently witnessed a major clash at box office when four films released on the same day for Pongal. Now, the viewers will get to see one more battle in April for the Tamil New Year.
If the latest buzz is to be believed, "Theri" will lock horns with "24". The makers of the Vijay-starrer had planned well in advance that the film would release on 14 April for Tamil New Year. Now, Suriya's flick has joined the race as its producer is targeting the same date for its release.
The makers of both the films have set their eyes on Tamil New Year as the movies will get a four-day holiday weekend. The audience turnout during the festival will be very high compared to normal days.
The shooting of both films has been completed, and the audios/trailers are yet to be released. But the first looks have been released and have met with good response from viewers.
Vijay's "Theri" is an action-thriller written and directed by Atlee Kumar. The actor plays a cop in the film, with Samantha and Amy Jackson in the female leads. Produced by Kalaipuli S Dhanu, it also has Prabhu, Raadhika Sarathkumar, Mahendran and Santhanam in the cast.
Suriya's "24" is written and directed by Vikram Kumar. It is a new genre for the audience as the movie is about time travel. Samantha and Nithya Menen are playing the female leads in the film, which has Ajay, Sathyan, Girish Karnad and others in the cast. It is interesting to note that Samantha plays the female lead in both flicks.
Suriya and Vijay had clashed in 2011 when their films "7aum Arivu" and "Velayudham" had released for Diwali, one of the biggest seasons for film release in Kollywood. Both movies had turned out to be hits at the box office. The audience hope "Theri and "24" will also do well.
