Vijay's "Kaththi" continues to be in the news for all the wrong reasons even after its release in 2014. Once again, the film has been dragged into controversy over plagiarism issues.
A writer named Narasimha Rao in Andhra Pradesh has accused the makers of "Kaththi" of stealing his story and not giving him due credit. "New twist in #Kaththi Telugu remake. Writer Narasimha Rao claims the film's story is based on his work. Threatens to take legal course. How many people will claim ownership of the same story?" journalist Haricharan tweeted.
Now that "Kaththi" is being remade in Telugu with Megastar Chiranjeevi in the lead role, Narasimha Rao wants to stop the shooting of the film, which is in pre-production stage. He has filed complaints with different writers' associations, requesting the organisations to stop the makers from starting the shooting till the issue is solved.
However, AR Murugadoss, the original writer and director, has not commented on the allegations yet. The director is currently busy with his Bollywood movie "Akira" and is soon going to direct Telugu superstar Mahesh Babu in a bilingual.
It may be recalled that "Kaththi" was dragged into the same issue during its making after a writer named Minjur Gopi made allegations of Murugadoss stealing his story. The issue had landed in the court, which had dismissed the case after the writer failed to provide concrete evidences to prove his allegations.
The movie was produced by Lyca Productions, which is currently producing India's biggest film "2.0" ("Endhiran 2"). "Kaththi" starred Vijay and Samantha in the leads with Neil Nitin Mukesh playing the role of a baddie.
The story of "Kaththi" deals with the plight of farmers and the powerful nexus of media, politicians and businessmen. How a petty thief takes on the powerful establishment forms the crux of the story.
Now, Mega Star Chiranjeevi is making his comeback with the "Kaththi" remake, which is produced by his son Ram Charan Teja.
