Vidya Balan's's portrayal of Silk Smitha in the blockbuster "The Dirty Picture" has grabbed attention of lecturers from Mumbai's prestigious Tata Institute of Social Science (TISS), reported Hindustan Times.

A TISS insider told HT, "Though her character raised many eyebrows, everyone was awed by the way she carried it off," which is what led the scholars to analyze and study the unusual yet magnetising character.
"Sociologists from TISS who undertake projects that focus on research that, among other things, influences policy and social practices, also agreed with her character's observations in the film," added the source.
A proud Vidya said, "The Dirty Picture will always be amongst the films I'm extremely proud of. I found it liberating to play Silk, a woman who was unapologetic about her sexuality and the choices she makes," as she came to know of the case study.
Vidya had received the Best Actress National Award for her daring and uninhibited portrayal of Silk Smitha in "The Dirty Picture".
The Milan Luthria-directed blockbuster film received critical and commercial accolades upon its release and became a blockbuster despite being an actress-oriented film.
