Cristiano Ronaldo had not made the kind of starts to the season you expect from him. He made up for all of that in one fell swoop – smashing five goals against Espanyol to move ahead of Raul and Alfredo Di Stefano as Real Madrid's all-time leading goalscorer in La Liga.
Ronaldo's five-goal mauling against Espanyol meant Ronaldo now has 229 goals in 203 games, quite staggering when you keep in mind that Raul took 550 games to score 228 goals.
Real Madrid absolutely thumped Espanyol 6-0 in their La Liga match on Saturday, with Karim Benzema scoring the other goal, while Gareth Bale was on hand to provide a couple of assists as well.
The win puts the pressure back on Barcelona and Atletico Madrid, who go head to head later at the Vicente Calderon.
