A driver from Karnataka was assaulted by some protesters in Rameswaram, the Asian News International (ANI) reported. Party workers of Naam Tamilar Katchi reportedly attacked the driver and tortured him to admit, "Cauvery belongs to Tamil Nadu."
The incident comes after an engineering student from Tamil Nadu was attacked by some Kannadigas after he mocked the Kannada stars for extending support to the Karnataka bandh held on Friday, Sept. 9.
Karnataka observed bandh against the Supreme Court's latest directive to the Karnataka government to release 15,000 cusecs of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu for 10 days. Along with the pro-Kannada groups, Sandalwood joined the protests with the presence of big names like Shivaraj Kumar, Upendra, Darshan, etc.
A student from Tamil Nadu posted derogatory remarks on the Kannada stars, who supported the bandh. He was later thrashed by several men for his comments and the video of him being beaten up went viral.
Following this attack, a virtual war broke out between netizens of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka attacking each other with memes.
