Arsenal suffered their third successive loss in all competitions when they were handed a 2-1 defeat at the Emirates Stadium by Swansea City FC, Wednesday.
This loss against Swansea put a dent on Arsenal's race for the English Premier League (EPL) title for sure.
Joel Campbell opened the scoring for Arsenal in the 15th minute of the game. Alexis Sanchez's through ball was finished beautifully by Campbell and that put Arsenal in the lead.
Wayne Routledge equalised for Swansea in the 31st minute of the match. The Arsenal fans apparently reported against the referee for not giving a foul against Swansea as they think Mesut Ozil was pulled down during the build up of that equalising goal.
Sanchez was unlucky not to have found the back of the net twice, once in the 10th minute and again in the 70th minute, he struck the woodwork twice.
Ashley Williams scored the winning goal for Swansea in the 74th minute as Petr Cech's goalkeeping howler gave the struggling opponents to put their nose ahead in the game and eventually win it.
First against Manchester United last weekend and now against Swansea, the Gunners lost these two games because of their own flaws and lack of cohesive effort from the players.
Not one Arsenal player could grasp the game by its lapels. Arsenal is somehow holding on to their third spot in the EPL points table. But if they continue to play in this fashion, they might lose the opportunity to feature in the UEFA Champions League as well.
A season that started off on a great note and the Gunners maintained their position in the top four until Leicester City and Tottenham Hotspur overtook them to occupy the top two spots.
Manchester United and City are breathing heavily on their shoulders. City still have a game in hand to reduce that four points difference between them and the Gunners. Arsenal lost their opportunity to reduce the six points gap between them and Leicester City.
"It was a very unlucky defeat because we created many chances, we were unlucky in our finishing and they only had two shots on target which were both goals. It's a very disappointing result. The players are very down but we have to respond to that," Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger was quoted as saying by the official website of the club.
"We focus on our job and come back reminding ourselves that we have some quality as well. Of course we have to analyse it as well and bounce back. We have a big game in three days."
Wenger was utterly disappointed with the result and he agreed to the fact that it did put a dent on their title hopes. Wenger also refused to talk about the Premier League title after the loss against Swansea. The Gunners boss is hopeful that they will be able to bounce back real soon in this campaign.
"At the moment I am worrying about our results. We just lost three games and that is always a very disappointing moment for the team. At the moment we don't dream. We have to be realistic and come back to what we do well, the basics," Wenger said.
"Let's focus on winning the next game and not talk about the title tonight. I'm not in the mood to do that tonight. It is a big disappointment for us to swallow this and we need to bounce back."
Arsenal took a further blow as they would be without the services of Petr Cech in the North London derby in the coming weekend against Tottenham. Wenger confirmed the news of the injury at the post-match press conference. Laurent Koscielny will also be sidelined due to an injury against their North London rivals.
