Vicky Kaushal, who made headlines for being roped in for Sanjay Leela Bhansali's "Padmavati," has reportedly opted out of the project. The "Masaan" actor was supposed to play Padmavati's husband in the film. The character of Padmavati will be essayed by Deepika Padukone.
After "Bajirao Mastani," Bhansali is set to make another period drama "Padmavati" with his favourite pair -- Deepika and Ranveer Singh. The filmmaker had roped in Vicky in the movie, but the recent buzz is that the "Raman Raghav 2.0" actor has walked out of the project, Deccan Chronicle reported.
"Vicky Kaushal has opted out of the film considering that the role is very short in comparison to those played by Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone," a source told the leading daily. If the reports turn out to be true, then ths decision might end up being a hurdle in Vicky's career. Despite being just two movies old, Vicky got the opportunity to work with one of the ace filmmakers but it looks like he has decided not to make full use of the chance.
When Deccan Chronicle contacted Vicky, he refused to comment. "I don't want to say anything about 'Padmavati.' I will start shooting my next film, 'Manmarziyan,' soon," he said. Vicky will share screen space with Ayushmann Khurrana and Bhumi Pednekar in "Manmarziyan."
On the other hand, Ranveer and Deepika will recreate their romance in another Bhansali movie after "Goliyon Ki Rasleela-Ram Leela" and "Bajirao Mastani." Now, the duo will be seen in "Padmavati," in which they will reportedly not share screen space.
The period drama is based on the life of queen Padmavati of Chittor, who performed jauhar (self-immolation of queens and female royals of Rajput kingdoms when faced with defeat at the hands of an enemy) when the ruthless Alauddin Khilji attacked her kingdom. While Deepika will play the titular role, Ranveer will essay the character of anti-hero. The film is expected to hit screens on Dec. 15, 2017.
