Piaggio Vehicles Pvt Ltd, the parent company of the lifestyle premium scooter brand Vespa, will soon launch a new scooter variant christened Vespa Notte in India. Likely to be priced around Rs 70,285 (ex-showroom Delhi), Vespa Notte will be the most affordable scooter of the brand in India and celebrates the beauty of black colour.
Revealed at the Auto Expo 2018 in February, the India-spec Vespa Notte is based on the Vespa LX 125 while the global spec Vespa GTS Notte is a higher displacement bike. Vespa dealers have started accepting bookings for the Notte while deliveries are expected to start in August.
The word Notte translates to night in Italian and the all-black treatment to the detailing does justice to the name. Apart from being offered only in Matte Black, Vespa Notte features gloss black touches to the chrome parts in Vespa LX 125.
These include blacked-out mirrors, alloy wheels, seat upholstery and some trim. Vespa Notte is quite different from the other vivid colours offered by Vespa.
Vespa Notte comes with the analogue console, tubeless tyres while disc brake option is not available. It is powered by a 125 cc, air-cooled engine that also does duty in all the 125cc Vespa models as well as in the Aprilia SR 125. The mill develops 10bhp of power and 10.6Nm of peak torque mated to a CVT transmission.
At the introductory price of Rs 70,285, Vespa Notte is about Rs 4,000 cheaper than the standard 125cc Vespa scooter. The omission of chrome parts believed to be the key reason for the competitive pricing.
Vespa Notte will go up against Aprilia SR 125 (Rs 66,764), Honda Grazia (Rs 63,994), TVS Ntorq (Rs 59,650) and the newly launched Suzuki Burgman Street (Rs 68,000), all prices, ex-showroom Delhi.
