Vespa is all set add new scooters to the India range. According to the latest reports, Italian manufacturer Piaggio is planning to launch the Vespa 946 and the Vespa GTS 300 between May and June this year. Both the motorcycles will be launched as CBU units and will command premium pricing compared to the current models of Vespa.
The announcement about the two new scooters was made by Stefano Pelle, CEO of Piaggio Vehicles India — the parent company of Vespa, reports Zigwheels. Both the scooters will be sold exclusively via Motoplex dealerships. The Motorplex store is a single platform for the sale of Vespa, Aprilia and Moto Guzzi brands under the Piaggio group.
The Vespa 946 debuted in India at Auto Expo 2016 and is one of the most stylish Vespa scooters. The 946 combines the retro styling with modern touches without compromising the Italian design language which is the USP of all Vespa vehicles. The 946 boast of LED headlamp, while the taillight gets LCD instrumentation cluster. The India-spec model is expected to be powered by a fuel injected 150cc engine that develops 13bhp of power and 12.6Nm of torque. Being a premium model, the 946 will flaunt disc brakes at the front and rear with ABS (anti-lock braking system) and traction control. The scooter is expected to be priced around Rs 6 lakh in India.
The GTS 300, on the other hand, is the most powerful scooter from Vespa. The 946 is powered by a 278cc, single-cylinder engine developing 21bhp and 22.3Nm of torque. The Vespa GTS 300 features an instrument cluster that combines analogue and digital inlay. The LCD display in the cluster houses fuel gauge, trip meter, odometer and clock. The GTS 300 features traction control and a two-channel ABS system.
