Ajith's "Vedalam" might have dominated the domestic box office conquering most of the markets. But there is one centre in which it has lost to "Thoongavanam".
"Vedalam" has been overpowered by "Thoongavanam" at the US box office. In the first two days, the Kamal Haasan starrer has raked in Rs 1.40 crore and "Vedalam" has earned Rs 1.10 crore in the US, as per trade reports.
It is quite an achievement for "Thoongavanam", which has lost to "Vedalam" by huge margins in other centres including Tamil Nadu.
In the first two days in Tamil Nadu, "Vedalam" has raked in Rs 25+ crore. The movie has been released in 520+ screens in the state, whereas "Thoongavanam" could only make less than Rs 10 crore in two days from 325+ screens.
In Kerala, "Vedalam" has been released in 105 screens and it is mostly likely to become the highest grossing Ajith starrer in God's Own Country. The response in Karnataka has also been good, say traders. Whereas "Thoongavanam" is doing decent business in both the states.
Both "Vedalam" and "Thoongavanam" were released on 10 November and the audience turn out for the films were good in the state in the first two days. But heavy rains is expected to have serious impact on the collections of the flicks.
"Vedalam" is an action-packed emotional entertainer revolving around sibling sentiment. Ajith and Shruthi Haasan are in the lead roles with Lakshmi Menon playing a prominent character. Rahul Dev and Kabir Duhan Singh are the baddies in the flick.
"Thoongavanam" starring Kamal Haasan and Trisha Krishnan is a crime-thriller, which is the Tamil adaptation of French movie "Nuit Blanche". Prakash Raj and Kishore have important roles in the flick, which is directed by Rajesh M Selva.
