Ajith's "Vedalam" has entered its second weekend in theatres with a bang. It is a crucial stage for the Tamil movie, which was released on 10 November, to make good profits.
"Vedalam" is not facing any competition from any other Tamil film this week and it is a major advantage for the Ajith starrer. The movie, released in above 1,000 screens, was released in above 520 screens and is still running in above 500 screens in Tamil Nadu.
The latest Tamil releases, including "Oru Naal Iravil", have not affected "Vedalam" in any way. Hence, the distributors are expecting to earn good profits in the second weekend.
In the first week, the heavy rain in Chennai and at a few others places failed to bring family audience in big numbers to theatres. So, their turnout is expected to increase this weekend and traders have pinned high hopes on the film's performance at the box office.
In the six-day first weekend, "Vedalam" had grossed Rs 78.15 crore worldwide and Rs 46 crore from Tamil Nadu alone. Traders predict that the movie could end up making somewhere between Rs 110 and Rs 115 crore by the end of the second weekend.
"Vedalam" was made with a budget of Rs 61 crore. The movie stars Ajith, Shruthi Haasan and Lakshmi Menon in the lead roles. While AM Rathnam has bankrolled by the Tamil flick, Siruthai Siva has written and directed the movie.
Chennai Box Office
"Vedalam" is heading towards breaking many records in Chennai. The film is expected to surpass the collection of Rajinikanth's "Kochadaiiyaan" (Rs5.6 crore), Vijay's "Jilla" (Rs 5.68 crore) and "Yennai Arindhaal (Rs 6 crore).
However, it would be interesting to see whether Ajith's "Vedalam" becomes his highest-grossing film in Chennai this weekend by breaking the record of "Veeram" (Rs 6.14 crore).
