Ajith's "Vedalam" has entered its third weekend with a bang. New releases including "Inji Iduppazhagi" have not affected the Diwali release and the movie is likely to earn a few crores in Tamil Nadu alone this weekend.
This week, Arya and Anushka Shetty starrer "Inji Iduppazhagi", Radha Mohan's "Uppu Karuvaadu" and "144" have been released in many screens in Tamil Nadu. But "Vedalam" is expected to perform well despite the new releases as these films have not got great reviews.
It was expected that "Inji Iduppazhagi" would impact "Vedalam". Unfortunately, the Anushka and Arya starrer movie has not garnered positive reviews. Thus the audience turnout is low for the new releases and this augurs well for the Ajith starrer, say traders.
"Vedalam" was released in 520 screens in Tamil Nadu on 10 November. The movie opened to an earth-shattering response and created history by raking in Rs 15.5 crore on the first day. But in the later days, unexpected rain affected the film and it ended up making Rs 50 crore in its six-day weekend.
"Vedalam" did well In Karnataka and Kerala too. Overseas, the film was grandly welcomed in the US, the UK and Malaysia. It earned Rs 78.15 crore in its first weekend worldwide.
However, the collection of "Vedalam" slowed down in mainly in the US and the UK in its second weekend. It is only in Malaysia the film has done good business. Hence, the third weekend is not going to be great for the Tamil film in international centres.
In Tamil Nadu, the film is expected to rake in a few crores to become one of the biggest hits of 2015. "Vedalam" is an action movie with lots of emotions. The Siruthai Siva directorial features Shruthi Haasan, Lakshmi Menon, Rahul Dev and Kabir Duhan Singh in key roles.
