Salman Khan's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" may have dominated almost all the overseas centres, but there is one place where the Hindi film could not outperform Ajith's "Vedalam".
"Vedalam" has outperformed "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" in Malaysia, a centre that has traditionally been a strong market for Tamil films. In the first weekend, Ajith's flick made a business of Rs 2.97 crore from 40 screens.
On the other hand, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" could only earn Rs 19.65 lakh from 16 screens. While the Tamil movie was released on 10 November and had a six-day weekend, the Bollywood film was released on 12 November and had a 4-day weekend.
In the second weekend, "Vedalam" had an above-average turn out to end the weekend by earning Rs 3.53 crore. On the other end, "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" ended its second weekend by making a total business of Rs 29.34 lakh.
"Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" has also failed to perform better than his previous blockbuster "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" at the Malaysian box office. It had collected Rs 30.32 lakh by the end of its second weekend and the latest film has missed out to beat this record by a margin.
However, the Salman Khan's film has done amazing business in the countries like the US (Rs 20.58 crore till date), UK (Rs 14.44 crore), Canada (Rs 5.52 crore), Australia (Rs 4.09 crore), New Zealand (Rs 2.51 crore), Germany (Rs 70.77 lakh), UAE (Rs 22.47 crore) and Pakistan (Rs 4.48 crore).
Coming back to "Vedalam", the Ajith and Shruthi Haasan's film has made above Rs 100 crore worldwide box office. It is made with a budget of Rs 60+ crore and has reaped profits for the producer and distributors.
