For the first time in three weeks, "Vedalam" has lost its top position at the Chennai box office. The Ajith-starrer has been overpowered by latest release "Inji Iduppazhagi" in the capital city of Tamil Nadu, but has beaten Bollywood movie "Tamasha".
In the third weekend, "Vedalam" has done a business of Rs 52.80 lakh from 189 shows, whereas "Inji Iduppazhagi" has minted Rs 58.26 lakh from 150 shows. Bollywood movie "Tamasha" is in the third position in Chennai, having made Rs 29.08 lakh from 72 shows, reports Behindwoods.
"Vedalam" had made Rs 3.23 crore in its first weekend and Rs 1.69 crore in the second weekend. The total business by the movie till date stands at Rs 6.34 crore. It means the film has turned out to be the Ajith's biggest hit in Chennai, surpassing his previous best of Rs 6.14 crore for "Veeram".
"Inji Iduppazhagi", has been declared to have had an above-average performance by trade experts. The film has garnered mixed reviews and it has to be seen how it will do in the coming days.
On the other end, the performance of "Tamasha" is appreciable, as a non-Khan (Salman, Shah Rukh Khan, Aamir Khan) films rarely does this much of business in first weekend.
Among the few latest Tamil releases, "144" has done decent business, raking in Rs 11.33 lakh from 78 shows. "Uppu Karuvadu" is in the next position, making Rs 9.59 lakh. Hollywood movie "Spectre", in its second weekend, could only collect Rs 7.21 lakh to take its 10-day total to Rs 69.32 lakh.
Kamal Haasan starrer "Thoongavanam" earned Rs 4.54 lakh to take its total business to Rs 2.66 crore till date. Salman Khan's "Prem Ratan Dhan Payo" earned a little over a lakh to take its tally to Rs 90.68 lakh till date.
"Naanum Rowdydhaan" had less than 10 shows and has crossed the Rs 5-crore mark in Chennai.
