It is often said that Varun Dhawan is the next Salman Khan of Bollywood. And now, Varun will step into Salman's shoes for "Judwaa 2", according to reports.
Though there is no official announcement, Twitter is abuzz with the news that David Dhawan will direct Varun for the second time and this time it is for the sequel of his blockbuster film "Judwaa".
Trade analyst Girish Johar tweeted that Varun will play Salman's role in the second part of the 1997's blockbuster film.
"@Varun_dvn to play @BeingSalmanKhan role in #Judwa2 Directed by #DavidDhawan Sir ....BIGGIEEE," Johar tweeted.
Last year, there were reports of Varun working with his father in "Judwaa 2". However, the actor rubbished the reports and said that they are working on a script but have not finalised it yet.
In 2012, there were reports of Saif Ali Khan replacing Salman and director Sajid Khan replacing David Dhawan in the sequel.
"I'll start Judwaa 2 with Saif after wrapping up my next film starring Ajay Devgn," Sajid told Hindustan Times in 2012.
"Saif and I have known each other for a long time. Actually, we first thought of working together around a year back, but things couldn't be put together. Now, I am looking forward to teaming up with him. Plus, Nadiad (Sajid Nadiadwala) is like my elder brother."
But looks like after the "Himmatwala" fiasco, the deal didn't work off between Sajid and Saif.
The original film "Judwaa", which was released in 1997, had Salman in a double role and Karishma Kapoor and Rambha opposite him. The film also features Bindu, Kader Khan, Anupam Kher, Satish Shah, Shakti Kapoor and Reema Lagoo in supporting roles.
