There hasn't been many leaks regarding the plot for Season 8 of "The Vampire Diaries," which will return to the CW this fall. But this hasn't stopped fans from speculating on how the upcoming season, which could be the last for the teen vampire drama, will end. And according to one popular theory, both Damon and Bonnie would die.

Nina Dobrev is set to return in the upcoming season and if this happens then Kat Graham's character Bonnie will die, thanks to the spell cast on them. In the Season 6 finale, Kat linked Elena's life with Bonnie's in such a way that Dobrev's character will wake up from a magic induced sleep only after Bonnie dies.

As for Damon, actor Ian Somerhalder had earlier expressed his desire to part ways after Season 8, and the best way for him to leave the series, if it goes beyond season 8, is to die, plot theories indicate.

Meanwhile, the synopsis for the upcoming season has been released, and it talks about Bonnie's efforts to save the two men she loves. Both Damon and Enzo turned over to the dark side in the Season 7 finale, and the Bennett witch will embark on a mission to save them.

"The triangle of Stefan, Caroline and Alaric will team up with Bonnie in season eight to search for the two most important men in her life – even though Damon and Enzo may be long past saving," the synopsis reads.

On the romantic front, Caroline and Stefan are going to have a few good days before their relationship gets embroiled in all the drama that's set to unfold in Season 8. "I hope that when we go back it is a happy, healthy relationship for them both," Candice King, who plays Caroline, told E!Online. "But it is probably not going to be that way because that is boring to watch on television."
