If "The Vampire Diaries" ends with Season 8, then viewers will see Nina Dobrev's Elena reuniting with Ian Somerhalder's Damon, as showrunner Julie Plec had earlier confirmed that Dobrev will be brought back to give a proper ending to Elena's story line.
A good number of fans are thrilled at Dobrev's return, but Somerhalder's wife Nikki Reed isn't, according to a new Celeb Dirty Laundry report. The gossip website speculates that the possibility of Dobrev and Somerhalder acting out romantic scenes is worrying Reed, and this may have already caused a strain in Somerhalder and Reed's marriage.
Somerhalder and Dobrev dated for about three years before calling it quits. The duo remained friends even after their split, but their relationship reportedly turned sour after he started dating Reed, who was Dobrev's friend. This was also said to be one of the reasons why Dobrev decided to quit "The Vampire Diaries."
Now, Celeb Dirty Laundry claims that Reed is worried that Dobrev and Somerhalder would reconnect and possibly rekindle their romance on set. "Nikki knows she got Ian on the rebound after Nina dumped him. Generally people don't stay with their rebound lover," the media outlet reported. "It doesn't matter if Nina comes back to The Vampire Diaries as Elena Gilbert or Katherine Pierce. Nina and Ian are going to be onset together many hours a day. You never know what will happen between former lovers when they are that close to each other day in and day out."
It remains to be seen if there's any truth to these claims made by Celeb Dirty Laundry, as Somerhalder and Reed's actions speak a different story. The two have been gushing about each other on their social networking platforms as well as in various interviews, and the actor recently revealed their intention to expand their family as well. This makes it highly unlikely that Somerhalder would ditch Reed for Dobrev.
As for Dobrev, who dated Austin Stowell after splitting from Somerhalder, she seems to be focusing her attention on her movie projects.
"The Vampire Diaries" will return to the CW this fall.
