The previous episode of the CW's "The Vampire Diaries" saw Jodi Lyn O'Keefe's character Jo once again dying with her husband Alaric by her side.
Jo originally died in the Season 6 finale of "The Vampire Diaries" when her brother Kai killed her during her wedding ceremony. Although Alaric thought he had lost his wife and his unborn children, the previous episode saw Valerie revealing to Caroline that the Gemini witches have safeguarded the unborn twins by transferring them to the blonde vampire's womb.
The twins are now safe, but Jo, who was brought back to life with the Phoenix Stone a few episodes ago, did not survive. However, speculations are rife that the character could resurface again, especially as she died with vampire blood in her system.
"That's a Julie Plec question, I think," the 37-year-old actress told Entertainment Weekly when asked if Jo was gone for good. "But I'm not afraid to tell you many, many people on the interwebs, as I call it, have pointed out to me that vampire blood did go in my mouth before I passed away. So…"
Another hint that Jo could be back is an interview executive producer Caroline Dries gave to TVLine, where she said it's "possible" the spirit inside Jo's body is someone we know. However, she added that she "wouldn't start writing fan fiction" about it.
Meanwhile, the next episode of the season will focus on Lily and her boys — Damon and Stefan — and their lives before anyone in their family became a vampire.
It will also deal with the abusive relationship the Salvatore brothers had with their father.
"You see Stefan and Damon as six and eight years old, or eight years old and 10 years old, and you see they had an abusive relationship with their father," said actor Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, about the upcoming episode, reported Bustle.
"The Vampire Diaries" airs on Thursdays on the CW.
