"The Vampire Diaries" actress--Candice Accola, who plays Caroline Forbes--on Monday revealed that she is expecting her first child with husband Joe King.
Accola made the announcement through an Instagram photo that she captioned: "Sometimes a Saturday is best spent painting t-shirts and taking an awesome family photo." She hashtagged it #ThatAintNoBurritoinMyBelly.
Accola's pregnancy announcement has created a lot of chatter among "The Vampire Diaries" fans, who have started speculating how this pregnancy would affect her character.
Interestingly, executive producer Julie Plec earlier teased at a shocking and juicy revelation for Caroline and Stefan, Accola's on-screen lover, saying they are "part of one of the bigger surprises of the season" that will unfold in episodes 6 and 7 of the upcoming season.
"It's a bit of a fun curveball to throw their way," Plec said, according to TVLine.
During a chat with reporters at San Diego Comic-Con, Candice also hinted at the possibility of her character being pregnant saying: "I think Caroline's going to grow significantly throughout this year in many ways — spiritually [and] physically."
Actor Paul Wesley, who plays Stefan, added, "We're going to be expecting …I think we can expect a whole new Caroline over this season."
It is not immediately known if Caroline will be pregnant, considering the show had earlier made it a point to note that vampires cannot procreate. However, werewolves can, as detailed in Plec's "The Originals".
Interestingly, a quick scan of fan forums reveal that people are not too keen on vampires getting pregnant, as they say it would be similar to "Twilight".
Here are a few comments from "The Vampire Diaries" wiki page:
"On TVD it is impossible for vampires to reproduce. And I'm sooo glad that it is like that. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE.. don't let any vampire have children. That'd be Twilight 2.0!," one fan wrote.
Another pointed out: "So far in the books and on the televsion show. Vampires cannot conceive or get anyone else pregnant. In the books Caroline gets pregnant by the Tyler of the books a werewolf. But then she is not a vampire in the books. I also agree with don't want a Twilight replay in TVD."
"The Vampire Diaries" will return to the CW in October.
