The relationship of the Salvatore brothers – Damon and Stefan – seems to be beyond repair, as the next episode of "The Vampire Diaries" titled "I Went to the Woods" will see Stefan thrown in a life and death situation.
The previous episode saw Mary Louise and Nora going out with a bang and blowing up the Phoenix stone in the process. This has complicated things for the Salvatore brothers as Valerie was unable to transfer the mark from Stefan to Damon and Rayna stabbed the younger Salvatore brother once again before the stone was destroyed. Stefan was trapped in the stone when all this was happening, and it is not immediately known where he is now.
The synopsis for "I Went to the Woods," the episode directed by showrunner Julie Plec, does not provide much clues other than to point out that Paul Wesley's character must rely on his instincts to get out of the trouble caused by Damon's "fateful decision."
"With time working against him, he [Stefan] sets off on a journey of survival while forced to confront a lifetime of irreversible damage Damon [Ian Somerhalder] has done to their relationship," the synopsis according to Wikia reads.
The summary also indicates that everyone will be searching for Stefan, but for different purposes. Rayna discovers the emergence of a new threat, and she'll have to find Stefan before others do. Meanwhile, Damon will come across an unusual lead to save his brother, and Matt will ask Valerie to convince Alaric to help in their search for Stefan.
"The Vampire Diaries" Season 7 episode 17 "I Went to the Woods" airs April 8 on The CW. This episode will also not feature any of the female leads such as Candice Accola's Caroline and Kat Graham's Bonnie.
