"The Vampire Diaries" will be back on the CW April 1 with "Days of Future Past." Friday's episode will see the vampires in the present day and fans will find out why Damon struck a deal with Rayna to transfer the mark of the Phoenix sword from Stefan to him. We'll also find out more about how Bonnie ends up in a mental asylum.
Warning: This article contains spoilers of "Days of Future Past."
The episode is expected to end on a sad note, as spoilers indicate "Days of Future Past" will feature the deaths of Nora and Mary Louise, the lesbian Heretics who came to Mystic Falls in Season 7. The exact series of events that lead to their death is not clear, but it is believed the two will commit suicide to avoid being hunted by Rayna.
Actor Ian Somerhalder, who directed the episode, had hinted at the deaths of these characters in an interview with TVGuide. Speaking about the episode, Somerhalder had said: "This one was really about telling the story of this whole group of individuals and how they're all intersecting. And we lost some very wonderful, very beautiful characters in this episode. It was just about tugging on the heartstrings of the audience and really allowing them to feel these characters."
Elaborating on his experience as a director, Somerhalder told E!Online he was excited to have helmed an episode that would set the theme and pace for the rest of the season. "The setup is what's going to happen in the next episodes of this show and the cool thing is that the first episode we're fully in the future so the tone is set where we're three years in the future and we're not going back," Somerhalder said.
