A new trailer for the upcoming season of "The Vampire Diaries" was released on Friday, and things aren't looking good for some of the fan favourite vampires.
Elena [Nina Dobrev] is struggling to cope up with the loss of two of the most important people in her life – Damon and Bonnie [Ian Somerhalder and Kat Graham respectively] – and despite everyone telling her to move on, she is unable to do so.
Season five ended with the obliteration of the Other Side with Damon and Bonnie trapped in it. While the trailer does not show what happened to them, it shows Jeremy hitting the bottle hard to deal with the grief of losing his girlfriend, Stefan struggling to move on after losing his brother, and Elena taking up drugs.
"Do you know Elena has some sort of witchy drug problem that allows her to hallucinate Damon?" Caroline asks Stefan in the trailer. This is followed by a footage of Damon telling Elena that she should move on in life.
Although Damon is stuck in a different sphere, executive producer of the series, Caroline Dries, hinted to Entertainment Weekly that there will be a number of Delena moments to keep fans of the couple happy.
"I've been getting all of these hate messages like, 'You think you can do a season without Delena? You're crazy,'" Dries said. "The fans have nothing to worry about. We know what we're doing. Nobody's going to abandon any love triangle. Everything will be fine. There will be plenty of Delena goodness for people."
But Somerhalder feels that Damon and Bonnie being stuck in the Other Side is a great thing, and hinted that the character dynamics will see a shift.
"These storylines have been told over the course of five years, the dynamics are changing - it's sort of a reboot," Somerhalder told HitFix about "Vampire Diaries" season 6. "By virtue of the dynamics created by the molding of different characters, I think it's going to be very interesting and it's been a long time coming," Somerhalder said, adding, "In regards to Bonnie and myself being on that Other Side, it's a great thing."
Season six of "The Vampire Diaries" will premiere on the CW network on Oct. 2.
