When season six of "The Vampire Diaries" returns on 2 October, viewers will find Stefan attempting to start a new life by distancing himself from his friends, and taking up a new job.
The upcoming season will have a four month time jump, and this will give each character time to cope with the grief of losing Damon and Bonnie. TV Guide's Adam Bryant noted that "when the season begins, Stefan will definitely not be anywhere near Mystic Falls. In fact, he will have taken up a surprising new profession in his new 'home.'"
While it is yet too soon to say what the "surprising new profession" is, fans believe that it would be that of a mechanic. Paul Wesley, who essays the role of Stefan Salvatore, said as much during the San Diego Comic-Con, and he added that all Stefan wants to do at this point is get on with his life.
It is not surprising that Stefan has left Mystic Falls, as the Traveller magic has made it impossible for any supernatural element to enter the town. But if the newly released teaser is any indication, he is not as involved in his friends' lives as he used to be.
However, that doesn't mean he has completely cut off all ties with them. In the trailer, Stefan can be seen telling Elena that she needs to move on with her life, and forget about Damon, who was caught in the Other Side along with Bonnie.
While Stefan has started a new life, not everyone is going to have an easy time moving on. Elena will find solace is drugs, which will help her hallucinate about Damon. In the new trailer, Caroline asks Stefan if he knew that Elena has some sort of a "witchy drug problem" that allows her to hallucinate Damon.
Meanwhile, nothing much is known about the whereabouts of Damon and Bonnie. But Ian Somerhalder, who plays Damon, recently Instagrammed a photo of his character with fangs, and captioned it saying, "He's back! #DamonSalvatore."
Executive producer of the series Caroline Dries too hinted to Entertainment Weekly that Damon won't be away for too long, and added that there will be a number of Delena moments to keep fans of Elena and Damon happy.
"I've been getting all of these hate messages like, 'You think you can do a season without Delena? You're crazy,'" Dries said. "The fans have nothing to worry about. We know what we're doing. Nobody's going to abandon any love triangle. Everything will be fine. There will be plenty of Delena goodness for people."
