Elena (Nina Dobrev) and Damon's (Ian Somerhalder) relationship has been going smoothly for the past few episodes, and if their relationship graph is anything to go by, then it's time to insert some drama in their romance.
The stage was set in the previous episode when Bonnie (Kat Graham) brought back the cure of vampirism from the prison world. Bonnie gifted the cure to Damon, and now it remains to be seen if he will make good of his promise and give it to Elena. Or will he be selfish enough to want Elena to stay a vampire and be with him forever?
Whatever choice Damon makes, his ladylove is going to re-evaluate her relationship with the Salvatore brother once she realises Jo is pregnant. "Elena discovers Jo is pregnant, prompting her to re-evaluate her own life as a vampire," reads a line from the synopsis of "I Never Could Love Like That."
Also, because actor Ian Somerhalder has said on more than one occasion that he doesn't have much hope for Elena and Damon, many believe Elena should take the cure and move on in life.
Recently, TVLine questioned Somerhalder on his thoughts regarding Delena's future, and questioned if Alaric and Jo's wedding/baby would prompt Damon to put a ring on Elena.
"Think about it this way: Damon's 173 and Elena's 18 or 19," Somerhalder said. "I mean, come on. Something tells me that's not the best idea."
Interestingly, a majority of fans are refusing to believe there's no future for Delena. Here's what one fan said: "Ian has been against the idea of Delena since way back, I cannot recall an interview were he was asked a question about Delena and he did not give that 'age' answer. It's really getting old!"
Another echoed similar sentiments, saying: "Why do people even take what Ian says seriously anymore? He's been using that line since season 2 and it's never mattered."
"The Vampire Diaries" will return to CW on 16 April with the episode "I Never Could Love Like That."
