Aishwarya Dhanush directorial "Vai Raja Vai" has got a good opening at the Chennai box office. The unexpected delay in the release of Kamal Haasan's "Uttama Villain" helped the movie make notable business.
In its first weekend in Chennai, "Vai Raja Vai" has earned ₹39.51 lakh as per Behindwoods. It had 162 shows in three days. However, on Friday and Saturday, the absence of "Uttama Villain" helped Aishwarya Dhanush's movie to rake in good money.
At many theatres, those who could not watch "Uttama Villain" due to its last-minute cancellation opted for "Vai Raja Vai". Nonetheless, the Kamal Haasan starrer occupied the top position in Chennai once it hit the screens late on Saturday.
"Uttama Villain" has made ₹85.39 lakh at the Chennai box office. Interestingly, Raghava Lawrence's "Kanchana 2", which released on 17 April, is still enjoying good occupancy in the city. The horror thriller has collected ₹54.16 lakh this weekend, taking its total collection in Chennai to ₹5.15 crore.
Meanwhile, "Vai Raja Vai has earned good response in Tamil Nadu. The movie has earned above ₹5 crore in the state in the opening weekend.
"Vai Raja Vai" has Gautham Karthik and Priya Anand in the lead roles. Vivek and Taapsee Pannu are in the key roles. It has Yuvan Shankar Raja's music, Velraj's cinematography, and VT Vijayan's editing.
