Vijay Bahuguna, son of late leader Hemvati Nandan Bahuguna, was sworn in as the Chief Minister of Uttarakhand on Tuesday amidst speculation of rift among the party members.
Controversy erupted in Uttarakhand after Harish Rawat, Union Minister of State for Agriculture and Parliamentary Affairs, reportedly sent his resignation to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh after Bahuguna was named as the next chief minister. It is reported that he has also written to Congress President Sonia Gandhi, expressing his preference to work as a party worker.
Legislators close to Rawat even protested the decision of the party's high command, as the veteran leader has been sidelined twice. ND Tiwari was chosen over him as the chief minister 10 years ago.
It is reported that many Congress legislators didn't attend the sworn in ceremony of Vijay Bahuguna.
