At least 15,000 tourists have been trapped near Vishnuprayag on the Badrinath route due to a landslide in Uttarakhand, new agency ANI reported on Friday.

The incident happened a few days after India Meteorological Department warned in a Twitter post that "landslide" could take place due to rain.

It may be mentioned that thousands of people from across the country visit Badrinath every year as it is a holy town.
Uttarakhand is prone to floods and landslide. In June 2013, a cloudburst had led to sudden floods and landslide, stranding about 1 lakh pilgrims and tourists. Over 5,000 people were believed to have been killed in the devastating incident.
